Without Sarros and Broz, Red Devil Girls come up short against No. 6 Benet

HINSDALE—No. 6 Benet Academy overwhelmed a shorthanded Hinsdale Central, 68-55, at home earlier this evening.

Winning tonight’s game against the sixth-ranked Redwings would have been a tall order on any night, but with standout junior forward Lily Sarros sidelined with a concussion and sophomore forward Jenna Broz out with a sprained ankle, a Red Devil win was borderline unthinkable.

“We didn’t know till yesterday in practice that [Sarros and Broz]…

Red Devils sweep season series with Downers North, split weekend contests

HINSDALE—Hinsdale Central comfortably defeated Downers Grove North, 58-45, to sweep its season series with the rival Trojans earlier tonight.

In the process, the Red Devils rebounded from a tough road loss to York last night, splitting their pair of weekend contests.

“The last few weeks have kind of been up and down,” Hinsdale head coach Nick Latorre said.

Senior guard Brad Anlauf propelled the Red Devils with 27 points, while senior…

Plagued by offensive woes, Red Devil Girls fall to York at home

HINSDALE—York held on tight to preserve a 48-40 win over Hinsdale Central earlier this evening.

Hinsdale head coach Tom McKenna said he continues to see signs of improvement, but his team simply ran into a solid opponent in tonight’s contest.

“I think we’re getting better,” McKenna said.  “York’s a good team.  They’re still in contention for the league.  That’s a well-coached, very good team.”

Junior Lily Sarros paced the Red Devils…

Red Devils rebound with convincing road win over Hilltoppers

GLEN ELLYN—Hinsdale Central pulled away in the final quarter for a 61-50 win over Glenbard West earlier this evening.

The Red Devils (10-6, 3-3 West Suburban Silver) gave a considerably better effort on the defensive end, than in last night’s disappointing home loss to Lyons Township.

“I thought our kids played much harder [tonight],” Hinsdale head coach Nick Latorre said.  “We talked about playing with childlike enthusiasm; I thought last night…

Red Devil Girls survive heart-pounder at Glenbard West

GLEN ELLYN—Hinsdale Central survived a West Suburban Silver conference nail-biter, 51-46, over Glenbard West earlier this evening.

Junior forward Lily Sarros commanded the interior, leading the Red Devils with 23 points, while freshman guard Gabrielle Rush scored 15 and added several assists.

“I’ve been telling [Sarros] that we want her to shoot as much as possible, because she’s very hard to stop,” Hinsdale head coach Tom McKenna said.  “They put a lot…

Red Devils fall to red-hot Lions at home

HINSDALE—Lyons Township stunned archrival Hinsdale Central, 66-54, in the latest installment of a storied rivalry.

The Lions (7-10, 3-2 West Suburban Silver) were the more vivified team from the outset, cutting swiftly to the basket, capturing loose balls, and making the hustle plays integral to coming out with a win.

“This is a tough one to swallow,” Hinsdale senior forward Tom Garvin said.  “We just didn’t come ready to play today.  They were just…

Hinsdale Falcons 4th Grade Cheerleaders capture state crown

By Mike Ellis

Both the sixth and fourth grade Falcon cheerleading squads captured state titles at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates in early December.  But while the two squads achieved the same result, they followed different paths along the way.

Fourth grade is the youngest age group within the IRCA, and the Falcon fourth-graders wasted little time in seizing the state title in their first year together.

            The fourth-grade dance…

Hinsdale Falcons grab 6th grade state cheerleading title

Both the sixth and fourth grade Falcon cheerleading squads captured state titles at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates in early December.  But while the two squads achieved the same result, they followed different paths along the way.

Victory tasted sweet for the sixth grade squad, which finished second at the Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association state meet two years ago.

Red Devil Girls come out flat, get trounced by Trevians

HINSDALE—Hinsdale Central lost its second straight home game, falling to New Trier, 54-34, earlier this evening.

The Red Devils trailed throughout the contest, committing the type of errors one might expect from a team playing its first game as a collective unit—not its seventeenth.

“We didn’t do anything well,” Hinsdale head coach Tom McKenna said disgustedly.  “It was certainly a very poor performance.  We just didn’t come to play, and we got…
