Over 350 members of the Monroe Elementary community gathered at Fullersburg Woods on Sept. 22 for the inaugural 5K Mustangs on the Run Fun Run.

Parents, teachers, students and siblings in strollers ran, walked and strolled their way through the woods, enjoying Gatorades and bananas along the way. Due to the capacity limitations of the trails, participants took to the trail in waves, assisted at the starting line by Principal Justin Horne and his megaphone.

The run was a PTO effort to create an annual event that raises money in a way that both parents and children can participate and enjoy.

“In the past we have had a garage sale,” PTO Co-President Ami Merz said, “but that didn’t allow the kids to get involved. This run is a fun way for the kids, families and teachers to come together to support the Monroe School, have fun, and do something healthy all in one morning.”
