BURR RIDGE -- Director of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction Kevin Russell will become the next Assistant Superintendent for Learning at District 181, after being approved by the Board of Education earlier tonight at Elm School.
Russell will replace current Assistant Superintendent for Learning Janet Stutz starting next year. Stutz will be departing from the district at the end of the school-year to become superintendent of Orland School District 135.
Russell, who has been with District 181 since 2007, said he is excited at the prospect of starting at his new position.
"It's a challenging position, with everything that we're instituting with the Common Core, our Advanced Learning Plan and the new PARCC Assessment moving forward," Russell said, "but I couldn't think of a better district to lead into the 21st century learning that we're trying to accomplish."
Prior to serving as Director of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction, Russell was Principal at Walker School and Assistant Principal at Clarendon Hills Middle School.
"I'm very grateful to the community of District 181 for continuing to give me opportunities to serve in leadership roles," he said. "I really enjoy working with the kids here, and my No. 1 goal is to make sure all of our kids make growth so that they can be successful."
One board member did not vote in favor of Russell, stating that while she appreciates his service with the district, she does not feel he is sufficiently qualified to fill the vacancy.
