Clarendon Hills woman drives vehicle into downtown Hinsdale restaurant

A 61-year-old woman from Clarendon Hills drove her Mercedes SUV into Zak's Place Restaurant in downtown Hinsdale yesterday afternoon.

Police said the woman was attempting to park in one of the angled spaces on Washington Street, when her vehicle abruptly accelerated, jumped the curb and struck the building.

The woman was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Chicago woman charged with DUI in downtown Hinsdale

A Chicago woman was assessed a DUI at the intersection of Chicago Ave. and Garfield Street in downtown Hinsdale early Saturday morning.

Kimberly Smith, 43, a Northwest side resident, was stopped for illegal parking and failing to signal when turning.  Police said Smith was observed to be under the influence of alcohol and submitted a breath sample that exceeded the legal limit (.08).

Smith was charged and released to appear in court.
